Truss speaks on growth

Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss will talk about regional development at a conference next week.

THE new Federal Government’s plans for regional development on the Mid North Coast and other regional areas will be in the spotlight next week.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss, will be speaking at a luncheon in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday 16 October as part of the Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) conference.
His speech will take place between 12.30 and 1.30pm at the Novotel.
The executive officer of the Regional Development Association Mid North Coast, Peter Tregilgas, said the separate luncheon event had been organised so people not attending the conference could still register for this important component.
“Under the new Cabinet, the Deputy PM and leader of the Nationals takes responsibility for Infrastructure and Regional Development,” Mr Tregilgas said.
“Twenty-five RDA representatives from around Australia will be among the luncheon attendees, eager to hear the new government’s vision for Australia’s regions.
“It will be a pleasure to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister to the Mid North Coast and to SEGRA, an important national forum for regional councils, industry, academics and economic development practitioners.
“The decision by Mr Truss, in what will be one of his early speeches as the Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, recognises the importance of regional development to the incoming Coalition.”
The luncheon costs $39 and tickets can be purchased via a form available on the RDA website, www.rdamnc.org.au
Around 200 regional leaders — including a contingent from Port Macquarie — will attend SEGRA this year, touted as the nation’s premiere think-tank, which is being co-hosted by Regional Development Australia – Mid North Coast, a joint state and federal initiative.
