Expo applauds the willing and able

Getting ready to expo: Paul Skilleter (Hope Shop), Leanne Burbridge (Port High P&C), Beck Miles (PMNC Vol Centre), Brian Grant (LandCare), Chuck Murray (2wayFM), Jackie Wright (RSPCA), June Grainger (Port Macquarie Marine Rescue) and Roger Speaight (Graphic Design).

VOLUNTEERS will be in the spotlight in early May when the Port Macquarie Neighbourhood and Volunteer Centre hosts the annual Volunteer Expo.
This year the expo will be held on Saturday 10 May, to launch National Volunteering Week, which runs from May 12 to 18.
Kicking off from 9.30am in the grounds of the Mid North Coast Maritime Museum, the expo will have a festival feel and there will be something to interest everyone, including music, food and refreshments.
Volunteer centre co-ordinator Beck Miles said 30 not-for-profit organisations had already registered to have stalls and inquiries from other groups were also welcome.
Ms Miles said offering the expo on a Saturday would make it more accessible for people considering volunteering to attend and find out about the options for volunteering in the Hastings.
“Volunteers are the cornerstone of our community and are vital to raising awareness of the not-for-profit sector,” Ms Miles said.
She said to honour individual volunteers and teams in the Port Macquarie Hastings District for their commitment to outstanding volunteering, the organisers were looking for businesses to sponsor an award.
