AN Australian history book will be launched in Port Macquarie this Friday.
Written by Port Macquarie resident and Independent My Word correspondent Laurie Barber, Massacre at Myall Creek tells of the brutal murder of 28 Aborigines at Myall Creek Station in 1838, the two trials and the subsequent hanging of seven men.
The Chief Justice, Sir James Dowling, described the case as “one of the most important cases which has ever come under our notice since there has been a Supreme Court in New South Wales”.
The launch will be conducted by Neil Buxton at the University of the Third Age Australian History group in Port Macquarie at 10am on Friday.
After that, copies for $20 will be available at the office of the Port Macquarie Independent newspaper, which is 143 Gordon Street (at the intersection of Gordon and Gore in the old tourism information centre).
People who would like to attend the launch are invited to contact Laurie or Glenda Barber at lbarber@midcoast.com.au
