School a step closer

THE new public school to be built at Lake Cathie is now a step closer with a development application lodged with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said it was an exciting stage in the process of seeing the school come to fruition.
“A local school enhances the social fabric of a community by providing cohesion and a foundation on which to strengthen the civic pride for Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills residents.
“When it opens in 2015, the people of Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills will have a very modern school with 10 classrooms, a library, canteen administration building, covered outdoor learning area, a multi-purpose hall, covered pathways, new games court and free play areas.
“The school is to be built on land between Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills on the eastern side of Ocean Drive near the Houston Mitchell Drive intersection,” Mrs Williams said.
“This is the ideal location for the school which will be built adjacent to the proposed sports field identified in the Area 14 development.
“The school is the only one being planned or built in a regional area and is the first public school to be built in our district since Tacking Point Public School 17 years ago.
Mrs Williams said it was a project that had been talked about for decades.
“Having a new local public school in what is about to become a key growth area on the coast is a major step forward,” she said.
“I am proud to have played a part in this process and look forward to seeing work commence early next year for an opening on day one, term one 2015,” Mrs Williams said.
