Some comfort for those left behind

The service will be held at Windmill Hill.

WHEN someone dies by suicide, those bereaved often experience a very complicated form of grief.
This is caused by a combination of sudden shock and unanswered questions of why it happened and what they could have done to prevent it.
They can experience a range of emotions highlighting the dramatic personal effect suicide can have and the important but difficult task of helping someone bereaved by suicide.
For those dealing with the suicide of someone they love, it’s important they feel free to talk about their reactions to suicide openly and honestly, to find support, to make sense of what has happened, deal with their grief and learn how to live with their loss.
That’s according to Lifeline Mid Coast, which is holding a non-denomination memorial service to support those who are grieving, This annual memorial service for “survivors” (the term used for those who are bereaved by suicide) will be just south of Oxley Beach at Windmill Hill, Port Macquarie from 6pm to 7pm on Friday 20 December.
“Christmas is an especially hard time for those touched by suicide and Windmill Hill is a beautiful spot to go to reflect and wander among memories, especially if our loved one’s resting place is not local,” a spokesperson said.
“Lifeline Mid Coast would like to extend an invitation to all those touched by suicide to attend the service.”
