A LOCAL TAFE teacher has been acknowledged for her excellent work.
The head teacher of business at the Port Macquarie campus of TAFE, Debbie Kennington, was one of only two TAFE teachers among the 23 recipients of the 2013 Director-General’s Award for Excellent Service to Public Education, awarded at a ceremony in Sydney.
“Ms Kennington is an outstanding example of the dedication of staff who work in TAFE colleges in this state,” the Director-General of the NSW Department of Education and Communities, Dr Michele Bruniges, said.
Dr Bruniges said the annual awards were presented to individuals and teams whose efforts had led to improvements in the teaching, learning environments and student outcomes at their school, TAFE campus or office.
Ms Kennington was honoured for her many years of delivering workforce solutions to regional, state and national companies. More recently she has actively partnered with universities to develop pathways into higher education for regional students.
North Coast TAFE Institute director Elizabeth McGregor said Ms Kennington embodied the values of innovation, collaboration and customer responsiveness that would ensure TAFE’s success into the future.
“Her sustained leadership and flexibility in meeting the changing needs of learners and employers has delivered outstanding business results for both North Coast TAFE and TAFENSW,” Ms McGregor said.
Dr Bruniges commented that each winner had demonstrated their commitment to the values and ethos of public education and showed the breadth of first-rate service across our state.
Nominations for the Director-General’s Award for Excellent Service to Public Education can come from within the ranks of teachers in primary and secondary public schools or in TAFE NSW colleges or campuses; principals; regional or state office curriculum consultants, administrators, school or TAFE NSW administrative and support staff, parents, community volunteers or members of the wider community.
