A WELL-KNOWN surf lifesaver has been named as the first Hastings Emergency Service Volunteer of the Year.
Paul Rayner is currently the chief training officer of the Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club and involved in surf lifesaving at a state and national level.
Paul has trained 43 new lifesavers for the Bronze Medallion and has been involved in many lifesaving rescues on Port Macquarie beaches. Last year he completed 105 voluntary patrol hours over and above the time he spent training members. He is also the director of lifesaving support services for eight of the area’s surf clubs and district supervisor for Camden Haven.
His wife Kim and two daughters share his passion for surf lifesaving.
Rotary Club president Dr Ted Giblin said Paul was an outstanding first winner of the Hastings Emergency Service Volunteer of the Year award.
Dr Giblin also commended all emergency service volunteers for their work.
“It is hoped these Rotary awards will become an annual event, honouring the many in our community who provide emergency services in our community,” he said.
Paul was presented with a trophy and certificate. As part of his prize he will also receive a weekend away courtesy of Golden Chain Motels and a dinner voucher from Rydges Restaurant.
