STUDENTS from Year 11 at Port Macquarie High School assembled to receive their portfolios and reports to mark the end of their preliminary course which prepares them for their HSC. Parents, friends, teachers and students from the school gathered to witness around 90 students receive acknowledgement for their many achievements and to applaud the major prize winners.
Special guests at the assembly included Sandra Wallace and Bronwyn Jolly (both representing Charles Sturt University) and P&C president Leanne Burbridge.
Several musical items by both junior and senior students entertained the audience before the serious business of handing out awards began.
Year 11 adviser Lyndsay Neilson advised students to work hard during the coming 12 months and to make the most of every opportunity offered. These sentiments were endorsed by acting principal Darryl Mason.
Academic excellence awards went to Reece Boreham, Felicia Chui, Adam Griffin, Emma Macintosh, Jack Page, Emma Piper, Cody Schmakeit and Kate Stevens. Both Adam Griffin and Jack Page received a Charles Sturt University scholarship.
Chantelle Cooper was named the outstanding student while Nicole Duffy was runner-up.
First-in-subject awards went to Khade Barnett (standard English), Zac Dawson (metals and engineering), Danielle Dunlop (retail), Jessica Flanagan (music), Andrew Fraser (food technology and also – sport, lifestyle and recreation), Nicholas Goss (entertainment industry), Ebony-Rose Hughes (English studies), Caleb Losh (hospitality multiskilling), Kieran Reeves (visual arts).
The year adviser awards for continued commitment and dedication to studies throughout the year went to Bianca Asquith, Mitchell Burgess, Nicholas Goss, Jesse Jones, Murray Kedward, Hannah McInnes, Erin Meyer, Jordan Sharp, Denisha Tyler and Bianca Wright.
Kalum Clayworth and Alyssa Walters were recognised for their excellence in community work experience.
Citizenship awards went to Bryce Date and Zac Dawson while Caleb Losh took out the house point award.
Dale Thomas was given a consistent application award for attendance, participation and the contribution he has made at the school. He was also the sportsman of the year. Zoe Archer was named sportswoman of the year.
Before the assembly closed the new SRC were presented with their badges and 11 students were given stage band certificates.
