Better roads the bottom line, says MP

Dr Gillespie inspects a much patched road surface.

FEDERAL Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie has formally written to Port Macquarie-Hastings Council seeking a complete outline of where federal funding allocated to the council is being spent.
Dr Gillespie said he was keen to find out where funds allocated to the council from the Federal Financial Assistance Grants and Roads to Recovery programs was currently being spent and how it was being spent.
“I think it is important that any funding is being spent wisely and that we are achieving maximum bang for our buck in the way we are investing precious resources into our nation’s infrastructure,” Dr Gillespie said.
“A significant number of people within the Hastings area have raised concerns about the council’s local road network and given the extraordinary rate increases they have sought approval for in recent times, I believe there is a need for greater transparency on when funds are identified to be spent, whether the projects earmarked for funding are running on time, and most importantly, whether they are being completed within budget.”
Dr Gillespie said he would analyse the information provided by council and use it in his efforts to further improve federal road programs.
