New role for Lyne MP

FEDERAL Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie has been promoted to the position of secretary of the government’s Health Policy Committee.
Dr Gillespie will head up the committee with Queensland MP Andrew Laming, who is chairman.
“This is certainly an exciting opportunity and given my extensive background in the health sector, one that I am particularly looking forward to,” Dr Gillespie said.
“All legislation the government will be putting forward relating to health will be required to go through this committee and so there is an important role for all committee members in shaping various policies and legislation in this important sector of our nation.
“I am very grateful for this appointment and I am sure it will undoubtedly be challenging, but I am sure rewarding at the same time.
“As I mentioned in my maiden speech, we are already experiencing significant demands on health and aged-care services here on the coast, and there are certainly considerable challenges which lie ahead. I see my appointment to this committee as an opportunity to help shape the policies which respond to those challenges and improve both sectors well into the future.”
