Port gets to rise and shine

THOUSANDS of Port Macquarie residents turned out to welcome the breakfast program Sunrise to town earlier this week, with live footage streamed all around the country.
The program, which screens on Channel 7, crossed to Port Macquarie’s Town Beach for live weather updates from weather presenter Edwina Bartholomew between 6am and 8.30am on Tuesday.
Edwina Bartholomew and a film crew have been travelling down the east coast over the past month in a special ice-cream van generating plenty of interest – and funds for charity – along the way.
The crowd ebbed and flowed during the morning, with several hundred people there at any one time and a seemingly never-ending queue of those waiting for ice-creams. In a sign of the amazing technical age we live in, the film crew used a drone to shoot aerial shots of the crowd waving, in addition to more traditional methods.
Since the start of the year the van has visited Coffs Harbour, South West Rocks, Crescent Head, Bellingen and Tamworth. After leaving Port Macquarie it continued its journey down the coast, with Newcastle, the Central Coast, Sydney, the South Coast and Far South Coast all on the itinerary before heading into Victoria towards the end of the month.
