Top field for Port pro-am

CRAIG Parry heads a strong field for the 2014 Better Homes Pro-Am to be played at Port Macquarie Golf Club in two weeks.
This will be Parry’s third trip for the event, having finished third at his first attempt in 2011 and then runner-up in 2012.
At the presentation in 2012 he promised that he would go one better the next time he came to Port.
Parry, who turned pro in 1985, has won all of Australia’s major events, as well as having won twice on the American PGA tour. Few would forget his memorable win in the 2007 Australian Open.
There will be many regulars coming for the Port Macquarie event, headed by the 2014 Queensland PGA winner Anthony Summers. Other regulars include Leigh McKechnie, Matt Millar, Neil Sarkies, Grant Thomas, Neven Basic and David Van Raalte.
There will also be a couple of former Hastings golfers in the field. David Bransdon went through the junior ranks at Wauchope while Josh Main is a former junior champion and course record holder at Port Macquarie Golf Club. Aaron Glasson is another former Port junior who will be playing.
At this stage there are about 80 professionals who have entered which probably means that this year could have the biggest professional field since the event’s inception. The pro-am will be played over 36 holes on Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 April. There will be a day for the sponsors on Monday, the day before the pro-am, and that night there will be a sportsman’s dinner.
The guest speaker at the dinner will be former test cricketer and TV personality Mike Whitney, supported by local triathlete Michael Reid, and the night will be compared by NBN’s Mike Rabbitt.
A number of the professional golfers will be attending the dinner. Tickets for the dinner are $60 per head and may be obtained by contacting reception at Port Macquarie Golf Club.
