A MAJOR fire that burnt out 627 hectares near Bonny Hills may be only a taste of what’s to come this summer.
The McGilvray Road fire started on Thursday and was brought under control by the weekend after a massive battle by dozens of fire fighters, including extensive back-burns close to houses.
Inspector Guy Duckworth, acting district manager of the Rural Fire Service Mid Coast, said conditions were extremely dry and the fire was one of dozens burning along the NSW coast at the moment.
“Given that we are still in mid-winter and no serious rain is forecast, that does not bode well for summer,” he said.
“We are already gearing up for a very busy season.”
