THE Mid North Coast Girls Surfriders 10th Surf Classic was staged last Saturday and Sunday at Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills.
This year the competition attracted a record number of competitors, 72, who competed in 34 heats split into nine age and board divisions.
Competitors were greeted by light offshore winds with contestable waves, but by mid-morning the wind had swung to the NE, making challenging conditions for all competitors.
The contest continued until mid-afternoon when contest director Jo Astorini felt conditions had deteriorated and the safety and wellbeing of the competitors was being compromised, so it was decided to cancel the round two heats for all longboard divisions.
On Sunday, there were nine finals hotly contested, with light offshore, overcast conditions. The swell had remained unchanged for all the finals making for challenging conditions for all competitors.

Over 50s Longboard: 1st Marg Bryant – Lennox Heads, 2nd Deb Winter – Woolgoolga, 3rd Lyn Worland – Sawtell, 4th Kerry Wilcox – Lennox Heads, 5th Mandy Swain – Sawtell, 6th Leanne Hopwood – Bonny Hills (MNCGS).
