COUNTRY cups bridesmaid Phrases finally made it to the altar at Port Macquarie on Friday – and the honeymoon’s not over yet.
Trained at Taree by Bindi Cheers, Phrases was coming off second placings in the Taree, Lismore and Ballina cups and another second in the Port Macquarie Cup Prelude.
The four-year-old grey overhauled race leader Epic Terra in the run to the line and held off the fast finishing third placegetter Post Restante to take the $80,000 feature race.
Port Macquarie is a happy hunting ground for the horse, having had three starts there now for two wins and a second.
Cheers is now likely to target the Coonabarabran Cup on 21 October, then the Queanbeyan Cup on 27 October, both $40,000 races.
Fashions also took the spotlight as women frocked up for Cup Day – one of the premier events on the Port Macquarie social calendar.
Everywhere you looked, there were vibrant colours, hats and fascinators.
Independent photographer Steve Harris, who also runs the business Fab Photos, was on hand to capture the occasion.
