Knocktober has great appeal

ADRA volunteers organising emergency accommodation during the February 2013 floods in Port Macquarie at the emergency centre that was set up in Panthers.

Knocktober has great appeaIF someone tells you it’s Knocktober instead of October this month, don’t argue – it is.
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency’s annual appeal is on this month, familiarly known as the Knocktober appeal.
ADRA is an agency which helps provide the basic necessities in our community, around the country and overseas.
“We help Australians struggling with education, abuse, or the result of natural disasters through op shops, community centres, youth resiliency programs and women’s refuges,” a spokesperson said.
Most of these projects are staffed by hard-working volunteers.
Locally, ADRA runs an op shop in Bellbowrie Street. ADRA also worked alongside the Red Cross and Salvation Army during the floods on the Mid North Coast in February this year, organising emergency accommodation for those affected in Port Macquarie.
The Knocktober appeal aims to raise $2million dollars nationally and in Port Macquarie members and friends of the Seventh-day Adventist church will be doing their bit by knocking on doors and raising money in other ways for the ADRA appeal.
However, extra manpower is needed to doorknock as many homes as possible and ADRA would love to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer a few hours of their time.
If a doorknocker doesn’t visit your house, you can post your donation to ADRA at PO BOX 637, Port Macquarie 2444.
All donations $2 and over are tax deductible. Anyone who would like to volunteer is invited to call 6582 6561.
