IF you love a laugh, if you love the movies, if you love a truly unique experience, then you are going to love Blue Grassy Knoll.
Over their 15-year career, Blue Grassy Knoll have cemented their place as one of Australia’s most loved, accomplished and enduring performance troupes.
This month, Blue Grassy Knoll will present their brand-new score to The General, considered to be Buster Keaton’s greatest silent comedy. An epic adventure set in the American Civil War, The General is filled with Keaton’s trade-mark hilarious silent gags and sublimely timed stunt work, and it features what is undoubtedly the best train sequence ever filmed.
Blue Grassy Knoll have defined a new sound with their cross-over from music to live film score, establishing a unique niche for themselves that sets them apart from any other Australian ensemble. Watching the film along with the audience, they play their own live film soundtrack without sheet music, taking their cues from the action on the screen.
This unique silent movie experience has received multiple 5-star rave reviews at Edinburgh Festivals and taken them to all five continents, including seasons on Broadway and in London.
Simon Barfoot, Gus Macmillan, Steph O’Hara, Philip McLeod and Mark Elton produce a score that is a broad pallet of instrumentation, fusing together a head-spinning range of music styles and traditions.
A showcase of craftsmanship and ingenuity, these incredible musicians become as much a part of the action as Buster is in this brilliantly funny film.
Since forming in Melbourne in 1996, Blue Grassy Knoll have created a body of work encompassing four feature-length film scores, five short film scores, four studio albums, 15 international tours and a multitude of festival performance on five continents.
They will be performing for one night only in Port Macquarie, on Friday 25 October at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Glasshouse and cost $49.50. Concession, under 21 and student tickets are available.
