MOUNTAINS of stuff is being sorted and spruced up ready for sale across the Hastings as homes, community groups and businesses prepare to take part in the Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 26 October.
Momentum is building with more than 50 garage sales already listed on www.garagesaletrail.com.au in Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Laurieton and Bonny Hills.
The Garage Sale Trail is being supported by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council as part of a waste reduction and education campaign. So far the statistics show 12,000 items will be reused and recycled on the day rather than ending up in local landfill.
A box fiddle, pool table, and a tinny complete with motor are amongst the goods on offer, with furniture, plants, music, clothing, antiques, toys, baby items, sporting gear and whitegoods also listed.
Some of the garage sales will entice the crowds with buskers, barbecues, fashion parades, face painting and jumping castles.
A number of community organisations will be hosting sales to raise funds including the Port Macquarie Historical Society, the Yoga Shala and Wauchope Hospital Volunteers.
At Newport Village residential resort more than 20 households will be combining their wares for a mega garage sale.
Newport Village Social Club President Gloria Hagarty said many new residents had recently downsized and the garage sale provided an opportunity to ensure their valuables could be put to good use by others in the community.
“We’ll have plenty of stalls set up on the day selling everything from knick-knacks to quality furniture and tools,” Mrs Hagarty said.
“This is a great chance to clean up and clear out, have fun with our neighbours and raise some funds at the same time. Our snooker club will be holding a sale to raise money for a new trophy cabinet.”
