IT will soon be even easier to get fit in the Hastings.
The Tacking Point Lions Club has started work on its fitness station project along the coastal walkway, thanks to an $8000 donation by the Coastline Credit Union and $4500 from the Australian Lions Foundation.
The concrete base has been laid for the first station at Oxley Beach and work on the Windmill Hill station was due to be commenced early this week. The transferring of the formwork from Oxley Beach and the Rocky Point Lookout station will be started by the end of June. The final station at Flynns Beach will follow shortly thereafter.
Local businesses are also generously supporting the project through donations of materials or services – backhoe by Norm Delaforce, concrete by Hy Tech and Hansens, a concrete pump by Garron Smith of GS Concrete Pumping, traffic control by Men at Work, and building expertise by local builder Bert Chapman.
Project chairman Lion Rob Bruce said the initial budget for the whole project was $40,000 but given the wonderful support from Coastline Credit Union and local business people Tacking Point Lions would be saving thousands of dollars.
“These savings can then be redirected to other needy causes within the community. We are overwhelmed by the support given to us in this project,” he said.
All the fitness stations are expected to be completed in or before August.
