El Ninos pip Lightning Bolts

The Tacking Point Thunder El Ninos celebrate their under-13 hockey grand final win.

HOCKEY
Hastings Hockey grand finals took place on the weekend, with teams vying for premerships at under-13 level, Super 9s, C-grade men, C-grade women, B-grade men and B-grade women.
The U13 grand final was a hard fought tussle between two Tacking Point Thunder teams – the El Ninos and the Lightning Bolts – and even though the eventual winners were the El Nino’s 3-0, it was not an indication of how close this game was.The two teams had played each other on three previous occasions and all games were close. Coached by Mick Harris with assistance from Ian McKie and Linda Dewberry, the El Ninos boasted an impressive undefeated record all year with an incredible for and against of 56 and 2.
In the Super 9s final, Port City defeated Tacking Point 2-1 after scoring two quick goals in the dying minutes.
Wauchope defeated Tacking Point Thunder 2-1 in the C-grade men’s final after scoring in the last 40 seconds of the game.
Port City and Tacking Point played out a 1-1 draw in the Womens C-grade final and could not be split after 10 minutes of extra time.
In the spirit of the game, both captains agreed to share the premiership.
Tacking Point Thunder’s B-grade men defeated minor premiers Camden Haven Red Bellies 2-1 in their grand final, while in the women’s B-grade grand final Wauchope defeated the minor premiers from Kempsey.
