Fun springs up

PORT Macquarie-Hastings Council is doing its bit to ensure there’s plenty on offer across the region these coming school holidays.
At Laurieton Library, there will be a special story time and craft session on Wednesday 25 September, between 10.30am and 11.30am.
Children of all ages are being encouraged to take along their Grandma or Grandpa, Nanna or Pop to share in a morning of stories, craft and games.
The Laurieton Library is located in Laurie Street, Laurieton, and is open Monday to Friday 9.30am-5pm and Saturdays 9am-noon.
Over the two weeks of the holidays, the library will also have a giant jigsaw to solve and plenty of board games to keep the children entertained.
There will also be plenty of creative fun at the Glasshouse in Port Macquarie.
On Monday September 30, children between the ages of three and five will have great fun making monkey masks and going a little ‘bananas’ as part of a fun Monkey Madness creative class between 10am and 11am, costing just $10.
On Tuesday 1 October, it will be time for the six to12-year-olds to get involved, with a wonderful opportunity to create amazing sculptures inspired by Kathy Temin’s sculptural fur ‘Black Gardens’, currently on exhibition in the Glasshouse Regional Gallery. The two-hour session will run from 10am to noon at a cost of $15 per student.
On Wednesday 2 October, students will be encouraged to seek inspiration from Daniel Boyd, another artist exhibiting at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery, and to create images using lots of different spots in the ‘pointillism’ style of the great masters. The class runs from 10am-noon for six to12-year-olds at a cost of $15 per student.
On Thursday 3 October, children will have the opportunity to create their own snow dome cities using plastic objects and recycled bits and bobs while on Friday 4 October, it will be time to create some funky tie dye T-shirts. Both of these workshops are aimed at six to 12-year-olds and will run from 10am to noon. The cost will be $15 per child. Those children taking part in the tie dye workshop will also need to take along at least one cotton T-shirt or other coloured shirts. Moonlight Movies will also be making a return to the Port Macquarie-Hastings region over the school holiday period.
Movies will be screened at Kendall Sportsground on Thursday 3 October, at Bain Park in Wauchope on Friday 4 October and at Port Macquarie’s Town Green on Saturday 5 October.
The Moonlight Movies have grown increasingly popular in recent years and movie-goers will be in for a real treat these holidays with some top movies to be screened including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in Kendall, Parental Guidance in Wauchope and The Life of Pi in Port Macquarie.
All three movies are rated PG and should prove popular with families. All movies will commence at 6.40pm and will be free of charge.
