IN Hastings District Cricket the points were shared in the first-grade clash between Port City and Camden Haven at Laurieton when a thunderstorm forced officials to abandon the game with the Magpies at 4/156, courtesy of 67 not out from Tim Harris, 33 runs from Luke Jehpcott and Phil McVicar’s 21.
The second-grade match at Sancrox went the distance with the Leagues Magpies scoring a six-wicket win over Beechwood. The Shamrocks were dismissed for 119 with Sean Mooney (3/15), Josh Felton (2/11) and Dylan Lewis (2/23) ripping through the opposition.
In response Port reeled in the target within 20 overs, in which B.J. Schneider top scored again with 47 not out supported by Lewis who was unbeaten on 29.
In other results, the third-grade Swoopers could only manage 147 against the Buccaneers at Tuffins with Greg Hall (29), Nik James (27) and Jamie Glason (22) leading the way with the bat. However, the Pirates got the result seven wickets down and with three overs to spare with James picking up 3/34. In the same grade the Strikers enjoyed a win and a week off as Beechwood forfeited their game.
Meanwhile, the fourth-grade Magpies went down in a thriller in a high-scoring encounter against Wauchope at Wood Street. The RSL boys scored 7/222 from their 40 overs with Jeff Kelsey (3/34) and Kyle Blanch (2/34) doing their best to contain the batsmen. Port City then swung the bat at everything with John Stace (76 runs), Ian Dickson (71) and Peter Doble (37) cracking open the bowling attack only to have Dickson run out on the final delivery which would have tied the game.
