THE NSW Junior State Cup touch football competition staged in Port Macquarie over the weekend was a great success, despite the wet weather.
A spokesperson for Touch Football Australia said 322 teams battled it out over two days to determine the best junior teams across the state.
“The Port Macquarie teams performed admirably across the weekend, competing strongly against their regional and Sydney rivals,” she said.
“Four Port Macquarie teams made it to the round of 16, which was a great effort.
“The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles were named club champions of the event, claiming three titles and making five finals in total.
“The New South Wales Touch Association looks forward to returning to Port Macquarie in 2015, with the event to be extended to a third day to meet the demands due to its overwhelming growth.”
The weekend is a major money-spinner for Port Macquarie, with thousands of competitors and their parents staying in the area and accommodation houses and restaurants reaping the benefits.
