WORK on the Kooloonbung Creek Cycleway project has been completed and is now open for public access.
The project formed part of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s adopted Operational Plan for 2013/2014.
The 600-metre-long concrete cycleway now links Kooloonbung Close in the south with Hollingworth Street in the north, giving cyclists and pedestrians safe and convenient access through the area.
The council’s infrastructure group manager Gary Randall said the community would now be able to enjoy a visually pleasing and practical cycleway through this part of the Kooloongbung Creek Nature Park.
“Minor additional landscaping works will be completed in the weeks to come and will mark the overall completion of this important pedestrian and cycle link,” he said.
The project delivers the following community outcomes:
* Looking after residents – adding to the range of recreational opportunities available and promoting healthy lifestyles.
* Looking after the environment – promoting the use and upgrade of paths within local parks, bushland and open spaces through environmentally sensitive design and construction, promoting alternative transport options for commuters.
* Planning and providing infrastructure – creating a formalised cycleway link in accordance with the council’s broader cycleway plans (positively contributing to road safety).
The total project cost was $220,000 including a $25,000 grant through the NSW Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Program.
It was completed on time and on budget.
