THE Sensational Seniors Expo staged in Port Macquarie on Monday lived up to its name.
The council-organised event – which coincided with NSW Seniors Week – proved a real hit with seniors, who flocked en masse to visit the many stalls and enjoy the free entertainment at Port Panthers.
Chief organiser Julie Priest, who is council’s community development officer aged and disability, said the event was even bigger than last year, with more than 70 stalls and a waiting list of stallholders.
She said it had been the perfect opportunity for new arrivals in the Hastings or the newly retired to find out about the many and varied activities available to them, ranging from garden clubs to table tennis, singing, dancing, legal aid and just about anything in between.
“Admission is free, but I guess a good gauge of how popular the event has been is that as of just 1.30pm we have sold over 900 raffle tickets,” Ms Priest said.
She said the working group of representatives from different seniors organisations would now hold a debrief.
“This and feedback from stallholders will be used to make next year’s event even bigger and better,” Ms Priest said.
