STORY-TELLING was the order of the day when museum volunteers from Port Macquarie and Kempsey got together with local ABC producer Wiriya Sati for a workshop at the Port Macquarie Historical Society.
The workshop was part of the Object Stories joint project between ABC Open, Radio National and the National Museum of Australia which invites you to choose an object that has a great tale to tell and contribute its story to a virtual museum of Australian objects.
Some objects have a particularly local story, while others tell stories from far way.
This project invites regional museums, historical societies and individuals to be part of a collection of objects which together tell the story of Australia.
“This project is perfectly timed for local museums,” Museums Australia – Mid North Coast chapter president Debbie Sommers said.
“Museums from Wingham to Kempsey have been working on a collection documentation project called Special Collections Special Stories over the past six months and the Object Stories project has given us a great opportunity and platform to share some special objects from our collections and their special stories with the wider community.”
Special Collections Special Stories is a project supported by Arts NSW VIM Grant Program, a devolved funding program administered by Museums and Galleries NSW on behalf of the NSW Government.
