POLICE have warned motorists to wear appropriate footwear when driving after a stuck thong caused a major two-vehicle crash in Port Macquarie on the weekend.
“Driving with thongs? Don’t do it. This is a prime example of what can happen,” a police spokesperson said.
“When you are driving you must wear something that is not going to slip and get caught!”
Police said a P-plater driving a Subaru was turning left from Ocean Drive into Lake Road when his thong became stuck under the accelerator, causing him to accelerate. The road was slippery from rain and he then lost control, careering across two lanes of traffic before hitting a stationary Nissan X-Trail at the intersection.
He was uninjured, but the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
The P-plater has been issued with an infringement notice for negligent driving.
