MORE than 430 people connected with the Port Macquarie Historical Museum and one another last Sunday for International Museum Day.
Clarence Street Connections was a free neighbourhood day supported by a Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Community grant.
“It was great to see so many people enjoying our museum and many of them for the very first time,” Port Macquarie Historical Society president Debbie Sommers said.
“We met Clarence Street residents as well as those who learn, work or play in our neighbourhood.”
“Our volunteers were kept very busy serving morning and afternoon teas, and a barbecue lunch, writing down people’s recollections of our old town and generally meeting and greeting. A special Clarence Street photo exhibition held on the day was also very popular.
“The Jugged Hare Bush Band entertained in the garden, AJ from the Party Professionals kept the kids occupied with her balloon creations and the guys from the Fire Museum came along with two of their vintage fire engines adding colour to the street. It was a fantastic and very successful day.”
