Air time for skate mates

Getting some air - Dave Tyson, the founder of Stomp Skateboarding and the organiser of the Australia Day comp, shows how it is done.

LOCAL skateboarders will be taking to the sky on Australia Day in a big way.
Stomp Skateboarding is putting on a skateboarding competition at Town Beach skate park in Port Macquarie.
The competition includes a four division Street Jam and Bowl Jam, with divisions for 14 years and under, 18 years and under, Open and Old Men.
Spokesman Dave Tyson said organisers had secured some good sponsors, awesome prizes and an impressive raffle. Triple J will also be broadcasting a Hottest 100.
“We have already gotten some great responses from people locally as well as people from Newcastle coming to compete,” he said.
“What an awesome way to spend Australia Day – being in the sun in a beautiful part of Australia, watching or being a part of something Australian uniting people together and making new friendships.
“If we are successful and have a good turnout we would hope to make this as an annual event.”
Sign-up cut-off times are 10am for 14 years and under, noon for 18 years and under, 2pm Open and 4pm Old Men. Competitors under 18 years must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver.
The Street Jam and Bowl Jam is an alcohol and drug-free event.
