THE Wauchope Lasiandra Festival is celebrating its 30th birthday this year – and you’re invited to join in the fun.
The festival will take place across the month of March and there will be a wide array of community events, with a mixture of old favourites and never-seen-before events conducted from 8-29 March.
The fun kicks off with a family fun day at Yippen Creek Reserve on Saturday 8 March. From 10am the Hastings Valley Mini Railway will be in action, ensuring a fun morning out for all the family. Later that evening a disco will be held at Wauchope RSL from 6.30pm.
A special kids disco will kick off the event for the first hour and a half, and then swing into an all-age disco thereafter. Entry is by gold coin donation for those under 18 and adult entry is just $5.
Sunday 9 March sees a new event for the festival – a fashion parade – to be held at Wauchope Country Club (downstairs). Various Wauchope businesses will present their current fashions in a fun atmosphere from 3pm. Entry is just $5 per head, with lucky door prizes up for grabs.
Purple people shopping and market day will once again be held on Thursday 13 March in the Wauchope CBD. There will be bargains aplenty with sidewalk specials from participating businesses and art and craft market stalls in operation from 8.30am to 5pm.
Saturday 15 March will see the festival rock ‘n’ roll show held once again in the Wauchope Country Club auditorium from 7pm. Entry is $5 per adult with kids under 18 free of charge.
Other ever-popular events include the Hastings River greyhound club race day, Timbertown pre-school purple and pink day and various golf, bowls and tennis events.
The culmination of the celebrations will be the 30th anniversary dinner at Wauchope RSL Club on Saturday 29 March from 6pm. All past committee and festival participants are invited to attend this special occasion. The cost is $30 per head – bookings are essential.
More details will be printed in the Independent closer to the event. For more information in the interim please visit the festival website – www.lasiandrafestival.com.au – or contact the festival secretary on ph 0412 137 621 or by email to lasiandrafestival@gmail.com
