RHYTHM and soul singer Pamela Hata-McLeay, formerly from New Zealand, settled in Port Macquarie only two years ago but has already won a reputation as a vocalist to follow.
Pam hails from a musical heritage with her father and grand-parents both having been involved in the music business. She herself worked in the music industry in New Zealand before moving to Australia with her young son. This included performing at the Big Day Out, X air and Summerfest, which draw tens of thousands of music lovers.
“My grandfather loved rock ‘n’ roll and, Dad was a DJ in NZ and then the Gold Coast, so I guess music runs in the family,” she said.
Performing past classics and the latest top-40 rhythm and soul hits with her unique voice and style, Pam is currently singing on a regular basis at Mi Casa Spanish Restaurant, Quay Lime Cafe and The Beach House. She is also much in demand for weddings and private functions.
In addition to her solo gigs she sings as part of a duo and with a four-piece band.
Pam says for her music is a much-loved hobby that pays.
“I enjoy it so much and have so much fun singing that I don’t really see it as work,” she said.
During normal business hours, you will find her at the Port Macquarie Independent newspaper office, where she is an advertising consultant.
She will be performing at the Tequila Carmels restaurant in Port Macquarie on Australia Day from about 2pm to 5pm. Come along and say g’day.
