THE first ever Nancy Short Media Award, sponsored by the Mid North Coast Friends of the ABC, was presented to Todd Millerd, a Certificate IV in Digital Media student, at the recent Port Macquarie TAFE Information and Creative Industries Awards night.
The late Nancy Short founded the Mid North Coast Branch in 1976 and her daughter Penn, along with president Drusi Megget, handed over a certificate and a $150 cash prize to Todd Millerd at the event.
Drusi Megget said that Todd received the award for his high level of academic skills and his team work.
“Nancy was a tireless worker, a veritable dynamo, for the Friends and I feel that she would have thoroughly approved of Todd’s efforts,” Ms Megget said.
Todd said he felt both privileged and proud to be recognised for his achievements in digital media studies.
“I am passionate about digital media and IT and enjoyed extending my knowledge and skill base during my time at North Coast TAFE,” he said.
“I wish to thank Friends of the ABC, as sponsors of the award, and also North Coast TAFE for the opportunity to learn and apply my skills. I will use the prize toward purchasing new digital media packages for my interest in app development.”
Head teacher of information technology Lorrae O’Brien said that Todd richly deserved the recognition.
“He was an outstanding student, a natural leader and an inspiration to other students – in fact, he is now one of our part-time teachers and doing a great job,” Ms O’Brien said.
