IT had everything from Shake a Tail Feather to Nutbush City Limits, and over a four-hour trip down memory lane, Wauchope Rotary Club’s ’70s and ’80s Countdown Dance Night raised $5000 for Wauchope Hospital.
Club president Paul Froome described the evening as a success on every level.
“Everyone dressed up for the occasion, reminding us all of the fashion hits and misses of the ’70s and ’80s,” he said.
“David and Pauline Stephens – Even Stephens – superbly entertained the crowd, performing all the favourites and ensuring everyone was on their feet.
“The night was a roaring success, and to be able to hand over $5000 to our hospital’s palliative care unit is the icing on the cake.”
Mid North Coast Local Health District governing board member Neville Parsons, also thanked Wauchope Rotary Club, the organising committee and everyone who attended for their support.
“The palliative care unit is an important project, not only for Wauchope but for palliative care patients,” Mr Parsons said.
“The unit will open soon, and when it does, people will be able to see for themselves the difference fundraisers such as Rotary’s have made to the completed project.
“It will be homely, it will be friendly and welcoming, and it will be state-of-the-art thanks to the generosity of Wauchope.
“Together, we have built a facility that we can all be proud of.”
Wauchope Rotary Club’s donation takes the community appeal to more than $100,000.
The money is being used to furnish the eight-bed unit, to transform the clinical environment into a more comfortable setting for patients and their families.
The $2.4-million facility has been funded by the Australian Government National Partnership Agreement on Improving Public Hospital Services.
