Popular eat, see, do guide

PORT Macquarie-Hastings Council has launched an updated version of its popular eat see do guide and a new iPhone app.
The printed guide is being distributed to more than 37,500 homes throughout the Greater Port Macquarie region with a letter from mayor Peter Besseling. It will also be available from accommodation providers, the iKew Information and Community Centre and the Greater Port Macquarie Visitor Information Centre.
Cr Besseling said the eat see do guide follows on from council’s successful Live Like a Tourist campaign in January, which saw visits to the portmacquarieinfo.com.au website and the online eat see do guide hit an all-time high.
He said local residents were being urged to use the updated guide as a tool to explore even more of the region and to encourage their visiting friends and relatives to do the same.
Cr Besseling said the impact of visiting friends and relatives on the local economy should never be underestimated. Data collected by council indicates that they account for just under one third of the region’s overnight visitors.
eat see do is a free magazine-style A5 guide featuring 84 pages of things to see and do in the Greater Port Macquarie region. It features beautiful imagery and a number of must- do lists to help make it easier for local residents and visitors to plan their time.
New sections in this year’s guide include a winery and brewery trail, restaurants, places to get the best cuppa, details of state forests and local fishing hotspots. Families will love the tips on the best places for family friendly meals, must do animal experiences, trail bike riding and what to do with the kids if the weather is unkind.
For those people wanting online information as they travel, the new iPhone app was launched on 19 April. The Android version will be available later this month.
Cr Besseling said the second edition of the eat see do guide had been updated to incorporate feedback from consumers as well as the tourism industry. The magazine-style content, must do lists and fun facts proved popular and have been developed even further.
The eat see do guide is funded through business rates and participating tourism businesses in the 2014 Greater Port Macquarie Partnership Program. It has been produced by council’s Economic Development team and can be viewed online at portmacquarie.com.au
Alternatively, download the free iphone app from the app store by searching for Port Macquarie eat see do or pick up a copy of the new guide from the Greater Port Macquarie Visitor Information Centre.
