PORT Macquarie High School Year 11 student Taylia Anderson-Lange was a guest at the 25th Jessie Street Trust Annual Luncheon at Parliament House in Sydney.
Taylia and school Aboriginal liaison officer Teri Boyle attended the luncheon on Friday 11 April with more than 250 guests in attendance.
Taylia is a talented musician and mature young woman and also a member of the Student Representative Council. She was supported by the Birpai Land Council and a St Agnes Parish Port Macquarie Men’s group and she and her chaperon were flown down for the day, courtesy of the school.
Taylia will be presenting a report to her fellow students about her experiences on the day, which included meeting acting leader of the opposition Penny Wong and other trustees as well as members of Jessie Street’s family.
It is hoped she is only the first of many Birpai young women to attend the luncheon.
