Band ready for a blast

A BAND of 17 musicians will be one of two groups performing at the Great Gatsby Dinner-Dance at Port Macquarie tomorrow night.
The Black Magic Jazz and Swing Band says it is the only local group with a traditional big band line-up.
It will have alto, tenor and baritone sax, trumpets, trombones, rhythm and bass guitars, piano, drums and vocalist.
The band is starting to make a name for itself in the Port Macquarie area and will be a key participant in the Big Band Blast next year.
Also appearing on the night will be husband-and-wife duo Suave, comprising Robin and Andy Blackmore, providing what will be virtually non-stop music on the night.
The function, organised by a committee of the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie, will aid Australian Rotary Health’s research into mental health conditions.
Major decorations are being brought to Port Macquarie from Sydney and special arrangements have been made to have them erected at Panthers for the function.
Some great items will be up for grabs in the auction, including a Roosters first-grade signed shirt.
Tickets for the dinner-dance are available from Sheila Openshaw on ph 6582 5592 or email mentalhealthsupport@hotmail.com.
