Council’s water-wise push

Whizzy the Water Drop is out and about promoting the save-water message as part of Water Week.

GO slow on the H2O is the message Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is pushing, sparked by forecasts of dry conditions set to continue over the summer months.
Water Week officially kicked off on Sunday 20 October with a launch at Glasshouse from 10am and council is using a range of activities between 20 and 27 October to educate people about the water cycle and to remind them that mandatory (level 1) water conservation measures remain in force.
The launch included live music, poetry, the announcement of this year’s Osmosis photo competition winners and the unveiling of the 2014 Osmosis calendar. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go to WaterAid, an international non-government organisation working to provide access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities.
Water-saving ambassador, Whizzy the Water Drop, is making regular appearances throughout the week with Crystal Clearwater by his side.
Residents interested in water management can today follow a water trail tour taking in the Koree Island pumping station, Wauchope water treatment plant, Rosewood Reservoir, Cowarra Dam and Port Macquarie Dam. The four-hour tour is designed to provide residents with a better understanding of how council is working to manage and conserve water on a local level. For bookings, visit www.hastings.nsw.gov.au/waterweek.
On Sunday, the Water Week focus will shift to Sea Acres Rainforest Centre in Port Macquarie for Aboriginal Stories in the Rainforest.
