Plan for tourism growth

WITH state and federal government funding support for tourism-related activities now linked to the development of a Destination Management Plan, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council is embracing the opportunity to deliver a plan that will guide sustained growth in our tourism and visitor economy.
The Destination Management Plan will outline strategies and actions for the visitor economy in our local area and according to Council’s Group Manager Economic Development, Liesa Davies, input from local stakeholders will be vital.
“Developing the plan will include setting a vision and reviewing our current tourist market as well as considering emerging trends and how we capitalise on new opportunities,” Ms Davies said.
“It will be a valuable tool in shaping how council, government, tourism operators and the broader community work together to grow and manage our destination now and in the future.”
Council will be hosting a series of workshops this month and is encouraging anyone with an interest in planning for the future of Greater Port Macquarie to attend.
“I invite our local stakeholders from all industry sectors, not just tourism, to come to a workshop in Port Macquarie, Wauchope or the Camden Haven,” Ms Davies said.
The workshops will be facilitated by Karina Groth and Renae Darlington from Tourism Business Solutions and will be held at the following locations:
* Port Macquarie SES headquarters on Monday 21 October between 11am and 2.30pm;
* Wauchope Country Club on Tuesday 22 October between 4pm and 7.30pm; and* Kew Country Club on Wednesday 23 October between 2pm and 5.30pm.
Invitations have been distributed to a range of sectors, stakeholder groups, delivery partners, government agencies, community and business groups but wider community involvement is welcome.
Suggested attendees include but are not limited to people involved with the local accommodation sector, attractions and museums, retail services, surf life-saving clubs, wineries and environmental organisations as well as food and beverage providers, transport operators, tour operators and cruise operators.
People who want to attend are asked to register by emailing amanda.moore@pmhc.nsw.gov.au/
