SUNDAY’S ocean and weather conditions were near perfect with a slight south-westerly blowing, very slight seas and just a slight trickle of current to the south. Six boats and 14 fisherpersons ventured seaward from the Port Macquarie Blue Water Fishing Club to enjoy the great weather.
The club’s barbecue and weigh-in commenced at noon and was well supported by members, families and friends. Fish to greet the weighmaster included flathead, snapper, morwong, trag, nannygai, pig fish and bonito.
The best boat on the day was Quicksilver skippered by John Robertson with 18.38 points and the runner-up was Easybeat skippered by Geoff Shelton.
The Mid-Coast Marine award for the heaviest catch was won by Tony Jones with 9.80 points, the Kempsey-Macleay Holden and Marine award for the best morwong was won by Geoff Shelton with a fish of .90kg, the Port Macquarie Private Hospital most species award was also won by Geoff Shelton and the Protect Pest Control prize for the best of other species was won by John Robertson with a bonito tipping the scales at exactly one kilo.
The Barry Ingram Painting Junior award was not contested and the Ken Little Fruit and Veg raffle was won by Billy Vogele. The club’s marble draw was won by John Robertson.
The next outing will be held on Sunday 6 October which will be the Bobby Chapman Memorial day. The weigh-in and barbecue will commence at noon at the marina. Anyone wishing to join the club or attend the weigh-ins and barbecue is most welcome. For further information please contact president Geoff Shelton on 0421 324 773.
