SEVERAL women who have achieved success in traditionally male dominated fields including the police force, heavy machinery and forestry will impress and inspire guests at the Hastings Heroines – International Women’s Day event on Friday 7 March.
Hastings Business Women’s Network president Kelly Lamb, who is hosting the event in partnership with Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams, said the speakers would share stories of breaking through stereotypes to achieve success, in line with the theme of the event, Inspiring Change.
“The event’s keynote speaker is NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Carlene York,” Ms Lamb said.
“Carlene’s career spans a number of areas including forensic services, general duties policing and prosecuting matters of a complex and sensitive nature such as murder, sexual assault and armed robbery.
“As the Northern Region Commander, Ms York is responsible for the delivery of policing services in an area covering 1/6th of the state. She has reduced crime within our region, taken the area to its highest operational strength levels and in 2012 led the strike force which successfully captured Australia’s most wanted offender, Malcolm Naden.”
Guests will also hear from a woman who has worked for Expressway Spares as a heavy machinery mechanic, Belinda Carey, and a senior manager with Forestry NSW, Tamara Campbell.
Ms Williams said the event would also feature the naming of several new Hastings Heroines, who quietly go about making a real difference in our community and are dedicated to improving people’s lives.
“This year we will celebrate the achievements of women who have made significant contributions to their local community and used their ideas and influence to inspire social, political or economic change,” Ms Williams said.
Funds raised from the event will be donated to Port Macquarie Hastings Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Support, for the ongoing refurbishment of the women and children’s refuge.
Limited tickets to the cocktail evening are still available at www.hbwn.com.au. Please RSVP by Monday 3 March.
