IT’S that time of the year to get your bums in the air and throw thongs on your feet for the 8th annual Mayor’s Sporting Fund Bowls Challenge.
The annual fund-raiser is an initiative established in 1999 by then-mayor Wayne Richards to support young local athletes on their way to achieving their sporting goals.
Now in its eighth year, the Bowls Challenge will be held on Friday 4 April at the Port Macquarie City Bowling Club.
The event will kick off with a free barbecue (and complementary drink) for all participants from 12.30pm.
Registration is $100 for a team of four or $300 for a team of four and to sponsor a rink.
Local businesses can also choose to sponsor a rink (without entering a team) at a cost of $220.

Alternatively register over the counter at the Glasshouse or contact the Glasshouse box office and register over the phone (6581 8888).
Mayor Peter Besseling said the challenge was a great way for community groups and local businesses to get together for a fun afternoon and to raise money for the region’s rising young sporting stars.
“The Mayor’s Sporting Fund golf and bowls events are ways for our community to show their support for our sporting champions of the future,” Cr Besseling said.
Prizes are up for grabs in a number of novelty events including the Best Dressed Team, Best Looking Toes, Best Fanciest Feet and more.
Registrations close on 28 March.
