Just in passing

THE newly installed overtaking lane on the Oxley Highway between Wauchope and the Pacific Highway will improve safety and traffic flow, the Deputy Premier and Member for Oxley Andrew Stoner says.
“This section of the Oxley Highway caters for 9500 vehicles daily and this work aims to directly improve travel for motorists in the area,” Mr Stoner said.
“The NSW Government committed $3.5 million to install the one-kilometre-long safer overtaking lane and building work was completed this month.
“A number of factors were considered in the design preparations, including travel patterns and times, traffic mix and speed, crash history, environmental constraints and community input.
“The road was widened for the extra lane and improved road shoulders were installed.
“The Oxley Highway is one of the main east to west routes in northern NSW which links Port Macquarie and the Pacific Highway to the New England Highway near Bendemeer.
“Port Macquarie is a recognised growth area in NSW and planned development in nearby Wauchope is expected to increase traffic between Wauchope and Port Macquarie significantly in the next 10 years.
“We thank the community for their patience during building work.”
