Bands battle it out

IF you are into music and love a great night out, North Haven Bowling Club is the place to be on Saturday 31 May at 6pm.
The first North Haven Battle of the Bands will take place and it’s absolutely free. There will be seven local bands playing 30-minute sets from 6pm with the winner being judged by you, the spectator.
Club sports and marketing manager Shane Globits said the major prize was being a paid support act for the Inxs/Cold Chisel show on 30 August at North Haven Bowling Club plus some recording time at a local recording studio in Port Macquarie.
“The line-up of bands is diverse with country rock, rock ‘n roll, gunge, indie punk and metal – no matter what your taste of music is, there will be a style to suit you,” Shane said.
“The bands entered are Envy Days, Strongheart, The Ritual, A Bear in a Man’s suit, Oox, Flowers by Irene and Jim Bird with a solo performance between sets. Jim is also supplying the audio and lighting for the night which will ensure all bands have professional-standard audio and lighting.”
Shane said the Battle of the Bands was designed to give up and coming bands the opportunity to play in front of a large audience and to help them get recognition and grow a reputation in the area which, in turn, will help with their musical careers.
“North Haven Bowling Club is fast becoming one of the places to go for entertainment with free weekly music on Thursday nights, a range of bands and shows throughout the year, including The Angels on 7 June and a number of free shows including The Outlaws in August and the Everly Brothers Tribute in September,” he said.
“If you’re interested in these events, just drop into the club and grab a what’s-on guide from reception.”
