THREE Hastings residents have been awarded the OAM in the Australia Day honours list.
The three are former NSW Magistrate Wayne Evans, gold medal-winning Paralympian Ryley Batt and refugee advocate John Ingram.
Congratulating them, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said all had made an outstanding contribution to the Port Macquarie community.
“Each man has been recognised for their individual achievements and community work and I am so pleased to offer congratulations on behalf of the Port Macquarie-Hastings community,” Mrs Williams said.
“We are so lucky to have them as not only local residents but also as community champions.
“To see their names on the Australia Day honours list is wonderful.
“Our area has a very active group of OAM recipients led by local businessman John Ross OAM who meet regularly and I am sure they will be welcomed into the fold with open arms.”
OAM stands for Medal of the Order of Australia, the pre-eminent means of recognising Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement.
Anyone can nominate any Australian, and all nominations are considered by the Council for the Order of Australia, which recommends awards for the Governor-General’s approval.
Recipients of these honours are entitled to use the appropriate letters after their name.
