School win for Lake Cathie

LAKE Cathie will soon have a public school all of its own.
The Northern Joint Regional Planning Panel approved a development application to build a public school there at a meeting last week.
The four-member panel met at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council with council staff and with the regional manager for Public Works last week.
Welcoming the news, Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said she was extremely pleased that after more than 30 years of local campaigning by the Lake Cathie community a school would finally become a reality.
“Those people who were on the original campaign committee in the 1980s will be as delighted as those parents whose children are currently attending school outside their local neighbourhood,” she said.
“This is a huge win for our community and when it opens in Term One 2015, it will ease the pressure on public schools in Port Macquarie.
“The school will cater for about 290 students with classrooms, library, hall, and administration buildings on land between Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills.”
Tenders to build the school close today and construction should start around March.
