PORT Macquarie-Hastings Council officially marked the opening of a new section of Beechwood Road on Monday 21 July, also launching the Beechwood Small Towns Sewerage Scheme on the same day.
The completed section of Beechwood Road (west of Bain Bridge) was due to be rehabilitated in the 2016-17 Operational Plan, but works were brought forward to coincide with the completion of a new sewer rising main.
Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peter Besseling said the Beechwood works were a great result for the community and a good example of an efficient use of ratepayer resources.
“This project recognises the approach by council in successive budgets, to allocate significantly more funding to road works and footpaths in our local government area,” Cr Besseling said.
The recently completed Beechwood sewerage system – which forms part of the Small Towns Sewerage Scheme – cost $3.2 million and the section of Beechwood Road currently being upgraded (when finalised) will cost $650,000.
