At your leisure

A SERIES of community meetings will be held across Port Macquarie-Hastings to provide local residents with the opportunity to comment on the future of the area’s parks, recreation and sporting facilities.
The council’s recreation and buildings group manager Liam Bulley said the council had identified the need to plan for the future of open space and recreation opportunities and facilities across the local government area.
Accordingly, the council has engaged ROSS Planning to help develop a recreation plan, which will provide council and the community with clear, realistic and achievable recommendations regarding the future of the Port Macquarie-Hastings’ parks, recreation and sporting facilities over the next 10 years. It will cover everything from bike tracks and shared pathways to playing fields and recreational boating needs.
ROSS Planning has already undertaken an audit of the area’s parks, recreation and sporting facilities and has commenced an analysis and needs assessment.
Mr Bulley said the community input phase of the project was due to begin in November with a series of public meetings as well as an online survey and a sporting clubs survey.
Those people unable to attend one of the meetings will be encouraged to fill in the online survey on council’s website at www.pmhclistening.com.au when it goes live on 4 November. Alternatively they can contact ROSS Planning directly by emailing Scott Walker at scottw@rossplanning.com.au
There will be further opportunities for community input once a draft recreation plan is available for comment in the months to come.
Representatives from ROSS Planning will be meeting with councillors on 6 November to update them on the plan’s progress.
The community meetings will be held as follows:
* Monday 4 November at Wauchope CWA Hall from 6pm-7.30pm.
* Tuesday 5 November at North Haven Community Hall, 6pm-7.30pm.
* Tuesday 5 November at the Emergency Operations Centre, Central Road, Port Macquarie, 7pm-8.30pm.
The sports club meeting will be held Tuesday 5 November at the Emergency Operations Centre, Central Road, Port Macquarie, 5.30pm-6.30pm.
