THIS weekend is your chance to have fun and pedal for a good cause at the same time.
On Saturday the Port Macquarie Urban Mountain Bike Park will host the Pedal Against Poverty eight-hour mountain bike ride.
“We are calling for anyone with a bike and heart willing to help raise money for kids in need to register for the event or turn up on the day,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.
“By entering the event you automatically support the aid work they do. If possible, we also ask riders to get sponsorship to raise more funds.
“Registration on the day will commence about 8am, with the official ride starting at 9am.
“You can come along and ride for eight hours or just a few, and there will be lots of prizes up for grabs for those entering the event. One lucky person will even take home a new mountain bike courtesy of Merida Bikes Australia and Gordon Street Cycles.”
Once again Jason English, the newly crowned 24-hour solo mountain bike champion, is the event’s ambassador and will be rolling around the track supporting and encouraging all participants.
All ages and levels of abilities will be catered for with a variety of courses to suit families and children, inexperienced riders and serious riders.
Pedal Against Poverty is a Christian organisation which supports kids in need in Cambodia, India and Tanzania. This year’s event will raise funds exclusively for a Tanzanian project located at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro in a little village called Mseranga.
The Pedal Against Poverty will be held at Wayne Richards Park in Koala Street, Port Macquarie, on a 5km mountain bike trail loop. Entry is $20 for adults and $10 for children.
