THE Great Gatsby dinner dance staged in Port Macquarie on Friday night at Panthers raised around $5000 towards research into mental illness.
Rotary’s delighted organiser, Sheila Openshaw, said the evening was a great success and everyone she had spoken to had told her what a fabulous time they had.
“Barbara and Ray Martin (Baz Luhrmann’s mother and stepfather) thoroughly enjoyed themselves and their time here in Port Macquarie,” Mrs Openshaw said.
“Everyone who attended the event made a concerted effort and dressed in 1920s style, which added to the success of the evening.
“The band Black Magic and duo Suave entertained us well for the night, as did David Plews of First National Real Estate, who was our auctioneer for the evening.
“At this point in time all the accounts have yet to be settled, but we are hoping that the profit from the evening may exceed $5000, which will go to Australian Rotary Health for research into mental illness.”
The star auction lots, the painting Merlot Tango and the Roosters first-grade signed shirt, went for $950 and $850 respectively.
