LOCAL public schools are set to receive an additional $1 million in funding next year, part of the NSW Government’s $100 million Resource Allocation Model (RAM).
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said the NSW Liberals and Nationals had consistently supported the Gonski Report’s key view that every child should have access to the best possible education, regardless of where they live, the income of their family or the school they attend.
“The RAM delivers on this by distributing funding to public schools in NSW on a needs basis,” Mrs Williams said.
“Funding provided to schools will directly reflect the characteristics of individual schools and their students.
“Locally it means that our public schools will collectively be better off by almost $1 million through the implementation of two new funding formulas reflecting the socio-economic and Aboriginal backgrounds of the schools.
“This means that the Hastings Public School will see an additional $46,334, Westport High School will receive an additional $206,886 while Port Macquarie Public School will get more than $90,300 additional funding.
“This additional funding will be complemented by our previous policy allowing principals and school communities will have a much greater say in how their funding is spent giving students greater opportunities.”
Mrs Williams did not reveal if any schools in the Hastings region would be worse off as a result of the implementation of the Gonski Report and the focus turning to the most disadvantaged schools.
